Training and Tools
Chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer afflict more people every year and have resulted in increased demand for trained health care providers and accessible health information.
Because health care workers and the public are becoming more technology savvy, e-learning or computer-based training experiences that are visually interesting and interactive are increasingly desirable. Computer and Web-based learning tools offer a cost-effective and flexible alternative to traditional training and communication methods.
The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) develops technology-based training and educational tools that are a natural fit for distance learning, but can also be used in conjunction with face-to-face teaching.
Some of our multimedia-based training options include:
- Webcasts or streaming audio and video
- Web conferences
- Web-enabled databases
- Simulations and animations
- Multimedia CD-ROMs
ORISE also develops training tools for health care professionals who provide the media and the public with information to keep people safe during an emergency. ORISE-developed products have helped public health communicators systematically plan, implement and evaluate emergency risk communication.
