Web Designer 3
PURPOSE: To lead project teams to design and develop client health communication Web sites. Responsible for development of the graphic design, navigation, CSS templates, standards, Section 508 Web accessibility requirements, testing, research, search engine optimization, and implementation of organizational web goals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Serve on project teams to design/develop or revamp client Web sites. Serve as lead Web designer to conceptualize, design, develop, and implement new Web products, both standard and mobile. Works with customers, communications specialists, management, designers, other Web developers, and the Web Manager (where applicable) to advise on and implement decisions regarding audience analysis and research developing content; registering with search engines; structure, information architecture, navigation, and wireframes; production scheduling, development and planning; technical specifications; adhering to section 508 compliance; working with ISD for special needs (databases); testing sites for usability, accessibility and functionality; cross-training with senior staff; optimizing design for web functionality and efficiency; research and needs assessment; implementing production plans; and monitoring use of site thru site reporting utilities.
Develop Web maintenance plans for existing sites and ensures development of maintenance plans for new sites. Research and identify emerging Web technologies, software, and trends that clients will need to incorporate into their Web skills set. Work with Health Communications and Technical Training staff to implement and enforce Web development standards, guidelines, and policies.
Participate in Web training activities to educate clients about Web standards and best practices and cross trains staff and client content authors to ensure efficient Web operations and adherence to established ORAU and client Web standards and security requirements.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Work with Health Communications Research Group to implement Internet marketing activities in concurrence with the client marketing plan, ORAU Strategic Plan, programmatic business sales plan, and marketing plans, etc.
Provide technical advice and counsel to Heath Communication team members during implementation/rollout of new marketing plans, Web sites, etc.
Provide web-tracking analysis and information to the Health Communication Team to help in making decisions as they relate to Web communication and marketing strategies
Work with Health Communication team to optimize online content and delivery to meet organizational health communication strategy goals. Direct search engine optimization for all sites as assigned by Web Manager. Work with clients to advice and develop Web content and structure for optimum recognition with key search engines.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Communications, Graphic Design or related field and at least 5 years of job-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have extensive knowledge and experience with Web development, usability, accessibility issues, etc. Must have a working knowledge of and experience with a number of graphics and Web software packages. Must have knowledge of Web technology infrastructure requirements, interface requirements, connectivity, and security etc. Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills. Must be able to communicate and work productively in a multi-disciplinary environment. Must have extensive knowledge of and experience with Dreamweaver, AcrobatPro, Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, HTML/XHTML, Microsoft Word, Flash, Javascript, AJAX, and XML. Experience with Visio, Axure, Morae and HTML 5 considered a plus. Must possess in-depth knowledge of web Development and Design theory, processes, and practices; communications theory and practices including marketing, advertising, PR principles; writing - for the Web; information architecture accessibility Guidelines and Section 508 Compliance Standards; and technical communications and editing-rules of grammar, style, syntax, and intricacies of the English language.
